Customize, generate, and download web and mobile app icons!

As I started developing user interfaces for web and mobile apps, I wanted an easy service that would let me configure icons and download them as a transparent PNG file. There are numerous icon sites out there, but very few allow you to configure them before you download. So I made PNGify Me.

[EDIT: moved to URL box by TheGAME1264]

PNGify Me lists icons within different categories and let's you customize the size, display, and colors of any icon before downloading the PNG file. It allows developers to quickly create a matching set of user interface icons that meet the needs of the style guide they are using.

I'd love any feedback and/or suggestions for improvement.

    Thanks!

Color me impressed. That's a pretty nifty service. The design of the site isn't bad. It's a bit bland, but I wouldn't worry too much. No one's coming there to be wowed by your design prowess. I do wonder about the potential copyright issues for some of the icons. Make sure you're doing your homework on that.

I would also mention that your competition are icon font and svg-generating services. Do you have any future plans to create vector-based output?

Me too, and that takes a lot.

I've generated images on the fly and manipulated them using ASP.net, and I know from firsthand experience that it's difficult to do a lot of it. So big up for this one, especially for your use of PHP and pure JS...I don't even see a framework (I initially guessed jQuery, but I was wrong). That's mad skill right there.

Like Ron says the design is a little bland, but I think it's only because of your choice of blue. If you lighten it up a bit and go more toward the green with it, I think that might do the trick. Nitpick, though.

And like Ron says, you're going to have to be very careful with the icons that you use, although I think in this case (which means "I didn't say it was okay if I'm wrong") the icons you generate would qualify as "transformative works" in that you're taking logos and other images and altering them. So in theory, you'd be okay with using say the Acrobat icon or the Toyota logo. Mind you, if you wanted to stay safe you'd probably just stick to generic shapes.

One thing about the interface...whenever you do a dark icon, it's hard to tell how it looks on the checkered background. It might be a good add-on feature to allow users to indicate a solid background color and that they want to make the PNG transparent against that color. To see what I mean, take any icon and set the foreground color to #123456.
