Mind reviewing my website?

Hi Everyone,

I am a novice website designer and have been gifted the task of designing a website for my girlfriend's grandfather's home business. This has been a huge learning experience for me. I have learned Adobe illustrator, wordpress, and a little html code. I want this website to be as perfect as possible for him and was hoping to get a few guiding words from someone who has experience in web design. It is not yet complete as you can see by the empty pages, however I really would like to know how the websites looks as a whole, the template, and even a few comments about the logo. All feedback is appreciated

No worries. That box has caused people a lot of grief. I can always put it in and did.

I guess what I want to understand and what's missing from the site upfront is who the target market is. If it's a B2B target market, your logo would probably suffice...if you're targeting consumers who may need welding projects such as iron staircases, probably not so much. It's an industrial logo, so it suits an industrial client base.

That's where you're going to have to be clear with things such as the language you use on your site, who your GF's grandfather's customers are, etc. I can't tell from looking at it.

I know that's not all that much guidance, but it's all I can come up with without knowing who you're targeting.

The Services page is only loading the header texts "industrial welding" & "industrial construction"..

The Careers page is doing the same and only loads "careers"

Im not really a fan of the logo.. It looks unbalanced so high above the nav bar.

I also do not like the graphic you have on the home page with the text " welcome to the all new proweld website"

Personally i think that this being your first go its already positive that you got something up and running.
But professionally i have to say that this is a website meant to represent a business, the best course of action would be to hire a web agency to custom design and develop your girlfriend's grandfather´s business website.

A website can generate business leads but can also scare them away. You should gently advise your girlfriend's grandfather´s to hire a professional, and then you can take on a personal project to learn and maybe even be in charge of updating the website in order for your girlfriend's grandfather´s not having to pay a developer each time he wants the website updated.


I am not trying to sell you my services, i am giving honest advice here.

Again, I think you guys are missing something...who's being targeted.

Industrial customers aren't hung up on looks and like things like that logo. So if that's the target market, it should work. Consumers would be a different animal, though.

That's why we can't necessarily evaluate this properly yet.

You did excellent for your first web site. That said... LOL It's too black and white. I understand the guy thing with the black and red logo, that's okay, but the rest of the site is too monotone and hard to read. If it were my site, I would change the Navigation text or the subject title to some color, maybe red to match your red/black theme. I would make the title a different font/size, it blurs into the whole page and gets lost.

It looks like a WP site, if it were me, and I just wanted a website, not a blog, I would build it all as "Pages" rather than "Posts", so that the first page did not have the side bar.

For a small business, the main thing is just to have a website, but easy to read is better. If it were me, I would reconsider the fonts used, I personally like serif fonts, although sans-serif seems to be most popular on the web.

Also, being a local business, I might add a plugin for GoogleMaps.

Not bad at all for your first website. The only advice i would give you as make sure those icons under the slider are all the same size. The one on the right seems smaller than the other ones, no big deal just thought i would try and help.
