This is a simple site for my father-in-law, who is looking for contract work in his field (civil structural engineer).

I'm not going for "great"; I'm going for "good enough to get him a job that lasts at least one year and ideally 3-5." So I broke a couple of my harder rules e.g. contrast ratio trying to meet AAA accessibility standards and settling for AA.

Anyway, I'm working on this, the LinkedIn profile, etc. Let me know what I can improve without going overboard. Again, this is just here until he lands something.

I like it. It's pretty simple, and doesn't get too wordy or complicated. Everything is pretty straightforward. The layout doesn't really break on smaller screen sizes.

The only thing I'd look into is that the text in the image right below the nav is really small at 1920x1080.

clear design. I will add the email under or behind the phone number in the top right corner. The text on the icons in the front page need to be improve. I think the title explain the idea so no need to say what each section is about and just directly give examples.

I like it. I suggest adding an email under the phone number that's located in the upper right. I would also make the text that is in the center of the page larger. Also, instead of having only some text in each of the three columns, why not provide a few examples from each and then provide a link for them to see more. As an example, list some of his areas of expertise instead of just some text.

A few examples isn't bad, but I don't know what they'd be. I'd have to talk to him about it.

I won't put the email in the top right. There's #3 on this list, and there's the fact that he's working a (much worse) job during the day and doesn't have access to email. That's why I use contact forms and have for years.

Another small issue is that the 3 large icon button things when hovered over lag a bit with the color change because the image has to load on hover. Not quit sure how that can be fixed but i'm sure you know haha.

CSS sprites. Workflow-wise, that's more of a cleanup at the end, though...at least that's the way I go about it.

Thought about sprites. Haven't figured out how they'd work in this specific setup, though.

I'm going to hold off finding out for now. I just spent part of last night at Staples scanning in 11" x 17" design sketches so they could be emailed to someone who apparently has work for him. If he gets the job, I don't have to do anything.
