Please review my artist site: www.voelkeldesigns.com Thank you!

    Hello,
My name is Gavin, I am a sculptor specializing in realistic bronze portraits. I made a simple website that shows a few of our works and services: Homepage - Voelkel Designs Studio

The site I made obviously comes from a template that I altered quite a bit using Dreamweaver CS5, there are probably many mistakes throughout the site's code but it seems to render quite nicely on many different devices. This site is simply to hold us over until I have more time from projects to actually consult a real web developer.

In general, what are your opinions of the layout and design? Most art websites are cluttered and funky and just seem to not display the actual artwork and services satisfyingly, so I hope I escaped this somewhat. I wanted to use a simple lightbox script for pictures and have basic text descriptions for services we offer. I attempted to use custom fonts for the titles but obviously it doesn't work on everyone's computers, and usually only graphic designers have the fonts I used anyways. (didot, univers, etc.)

My main issue is the contact form on the contact page: Contact - Voelkel Designs Studio

It seems as if something is not configured properly, I am not sure if it is the mail configurations in the contact.html, the send-mail.php file, or some other factor such as my email client (godaddy) not allowing me to send or receive emails through that particular contact form. I have used other contact form generators and they worked, but they simply look too amateurish and are hard for me to configure.

Please take a look around the site and let me know if it feels intuitive. Only about 2 years ago we still had a website from the early 2000's, which was...terrible, to say the least... many of our clients are in the top 1% of income, and I know they don't exactly want to spend valuable time fumbling on a site that isn't fluid and visually appealing.

If I need to post more information please let me know, thank you!

It is a nice website - takes just a fraction of a second to realise it is a design studio, gives an impresion that it is a serious and well established design studio. However, it would be good if you somehow stated on the homepage that you specialise in bronze portraits, maybe some quick intro text - so that people know what exactly you offer without any effort to find that out.

I would make some changes to the "Services" section - it would be great if people could have a quick look and see what services you offer and how much they cost, and then, if that seems alright to them, they could read more. Now it is quite hard to read that section, no overview. Also, hard to see where one section ends and another begins. If the primary aim of your website is to make money by selling your services - you need to spend more time to improve and simplify that section.

Contact form: Labels of the form fields have to go before the fields or above them - stick to conventions unless you have a very good reason to break them.

Thanks, that is some great advice, I'll come up with something that makes a better intro and condense the services section. Sometimes its hard to know exactly what someone would want to hear/read about bronze artwork, so I was really struggling to figure out a way that shows them a brief introduction, so your overview idea is really great.
I'll try switching the order of words and fields in the contact form, I suppose I left it the way it is so the field boxes line up evenly.
