    Constructive criticism please

A Local is a free online business directory. Our aim is to promote businesses online, using our experience and expertise in Internet Marketing (it's a subsidiary of the web development company that we work for), and focusing on locality. The site was neglected for a while but has now become a key focus of our business, in order to generate leads.

What I'd like to gain from your reviews is advice on how to improve the site - to gain more visitors, and improve the user's experience.

There are issues that we are already aware of, such as the Page Speed, but I'd like to get a second opinion on any of the functionalities, features or aesthetic of the site. Any advice or ideas would be greatly appreciated (I don't mind being slated if the comments are helpful).

    The address is: http://alocal.uk

You must like bright red. Not pleasing to my eyes.

Yes, the bright red is off-putting, but other things bother me even more.

Your target market appears to be local businesses in the UK. Why should they list their businesses. What are you going to do for them, how will it help them or how will they benefit?

Once you answer these questions I will likely have several additional ones.

The colours are quite an eye sore. The dividers could also do with some definition which helps separate the sections.

    Thanks for your reply
To answer your questions: When we list a business on our site, we advertise their services, completely free of charge, with a range of details such as - a description, their location (with Google Maps integration), their social media links, a featured image, their opening hours and a link to their website - furthermore, for every listing we create, we offer a free Google AdWords advert and a free web analysis (which consists of a document detailing the strengths and weaknesses of their website, with tips to improve, and a conversation with one of our specialists to give expert advice on how to go about investing resources into their website). Upon reflection, we could do more to outline this information on our site, so thanks for raising these points.

What additional questions do you have?

This is starting to get really old.

That's the theme the site uses, and sadly the prevailing "theme" (pardon the unintentional pun) among designers in particular. "I'm a designer, as long as I can use someone else's design." Sooner or later, people figure this out.
