    Squarespace Website Design

What is your opinion on Squarespace as a CMS?

First post on here to see what people think of Squarespace as a web design CMS platform. We are a web design company from Dublin and over the past year or so we have don most of our web design through Squarespace. To be honest, all the functionality you might have with other platforms like Drupal, WordPress and Joomla is not there yet but the CMS is robust enough to design and develop the majority of websites for our clients.
Have a look through our website web design dublin and our portfolio page. None of these websites are templates and only some required custom code, some JS, some HTML etc but nothing major.

Could you guys have a look through and let me know what you think?

There is a market out there for "build me a site super fast and cheap and keep it up for me". Squarespace is probably perfect for that, and I suppose you could probably make some money milling those sites out.

Aside from that, it's really not meant for client work. It's more for people who are too cheap to hire out or can't make the investment to get themselves up and running.

What Ron said. Squarespace has a short ceiling and if you develop any skills whatsoever, you're going to hit it in short order. The major problem is that it, like many "CMSes", tries to be all things to all people and quite understandably ends up almost completely missing the mark; only a small percentage of users can actually derive "value" or "benefit" from it. It also tends to generate bloated code and quite often adds Javascripts and CSS rules that are convoluted and make absolutely no sense.

On top of the Squarespace issues, your copy reads like SEO copy. If you wouldn't say it out loud, don't include it in your copy; it's easy for a competitor to flag you for manipulating search engines (of course, no competitor would ever do such a thing because they all know that Google is evil and they'll never do anything to help big G even if it helps them as well!) and it doesn't flow well. "What do you do?" "I do website design Dublin." Doesn't sound right, does it?

Contrast ratio: you'll want to pay attention to this, although it seems to affect your client sites slightly more than yours. Yours isn't bad overall, but there are issues.

Not really much more to say other than that.

Thanks for the feedback and yes, I agree the copy needs some work.

I was on a mobile phone when I took a look at your site and it was a mess on that screen.
