I'm in the process of getting a portfolio site up and running. I designed something rather quickly the other day, and quick it has to be, since I don't have much time to get it up. You can see two slightly different versions of the site at:
    design 1
design 2 - slight modification of design 1
NOTE: Yes, these are just images at the moment, they may take some time to load.

Design 2 is just the addition of:
    - Light coloured menu bar
    - Drop shadow on centre boxes
    - Bottom of main text box/area doesn't run to the very bottom of the page.

Does anyone want to voice any opinions on their preference on the above design differnces, and, of course, any other design improvements? I'm sure there are many, but keep in mind that I have little time...although knowing your thoughts will always help in the future.

    Thanks for any help.

it looks good, but honestly I didn't look at the 2nd one because the first one was painfully slow to load. One suggestion that I have is, if you're looking to get some work via your portfolio page...don't rush it. If your portfolio looks rushed and slapped together you'll get no business.

Thanks for the comments. I know that I should spend more time on it - and for my own sites I'm generally rather painstaking - but time is the annoyingly absent factor in this case.

The overall feel isn't bad, though maybe taking out the background streaks in the content area would clean it up a bit.
