Im in the middle of designing this site to host both my and my friend's writing. Im thinking it would be nice to get other's opinions to help along the way.

Its not nearly finished, I still have to do more graphic design on the banner, load content, and fix bugs. Right now it would be nice if you all could tell me what you think about the menu bar, the general layout, the color scheme, and any helps on some of the obvious problems. The colors there are blue and yellow (obviously), and I recently made the link hover orange, and im thinking about adding more of that color in there. The color scheme has been changed on this site more than anything else, Im either not good with colors or just too picky.

    Thanks in advance.

Will look good once you have included your above plans for the site.

I look forward to seeing the completed product.

Tested in IE6 56k modem 800x600. Loads nice and fast. Slightly too wide for 800x600. When using the back button to return to the main page I get this error:-

    line 2
    char 29
    Syntax error

Otherwise, its looking good. Good luck with it.

Looking pretty good but there are SO many buttons on the nav to the left!!! See if you can find a way around that if you can.

Also, why dont you put some lipsum in your content areas instead of "jhadjkhajdhaskdjh"? It will look alot better and really, it will add to the current site!!!

    Hope this helps!

LoL, I just threw in the jibberish for myself, so I can get a feel of how big the content is.

For martial arts the general census is that a link to info on every style or form is appreciated. But yeah, I just started getting into web design about a month ago, and, no to brag, but I have been getting rather good at it. The problem with that is that I look at this design and know I can do a lot better. I decided I am going to shoot for that (a better design). I just made up a style sheet with just a few divs and already its looking to be way nicer than version 1.0. Heh, anyway I just hope that I dont finish this other one and decide I dont like it either.

Ill post the new design once it gets some substance to it, then maybe you all could help out down the line. Thanks for the feedback!

only thing i have to say is define the width with a <div> tag and center it. so like <center><div width="75%">*content*</div.</center> Make your res like 1280 X 860 or almost as high as your monitor can go so you know what percentage will look best in all resolutions. fiddle around to get the best fit. The nice simple design is good but you could add a little background color to the text areas and to the right of the spotlight area i would put a pic or something. Its too blank

Find a copy of prosizer, that will help see what a site will look like in various resolutions in IE and Netscape without altering your current setup. think I came across this at photoshopclub.com or get in touch and i'll see if i can throw a copy your way.

Thanks kelby, Ill look around for it in a bit. Like I said Im redoing the whole thing in a bit more professional and clean fashion.

Newfie: about all the links - my solution to that in my new design is to have both a small header menu and a left hand navigation bar with more details. I think its a more orderly way about keeping so many links on every page.

If you think all those links are a lot, check out the site I work for at www.fightauthority.com. I dont even own the site but people still email me complaining about there being too much info and options. Data overload, in a sense, but it brings in a lot of visitors.
