    Hi all,

Well, that didn't take long, did it?

SO many things got in the way that Jennifer and I only just managed to finalise an agreed new format for her site's pages at tea-time today.

So, hot off the press (or whatever), please check out:

    www.algarve-beach-life.com/test-page.html
This is the cleaned-up, got-rid-of-the-gradients version. But we still can't decide about the nav buttons. So we've included 3 versions, to get some feedback about those too.

The previous (i.e. current) page design is at:
    http://www.algarve-beach-life.com

Thanks for any comments, and we'll remember you all in our mantras, next time we fire up a joss stick!

I don't want to sound thick (I know - too late!) but what do you mean by background colour? Isn't what's there a colour (sand)?
Is there a background colour? I think I see a faint one, but it doesn't show up much on my monitor.

Wouldn't it look different on various platforms, depending on what fonts were present?
that depends on which font you use, there are something like 14 that are the same on all computers but I'm not sure, you'll have to look it up. Fonts like Tahoma, Arial, Comic Sans and Times New Roman should all appear on every comp.

Not sure what you mean by this (I told you I was feeling thick...) Which image? The logo?
like I said, the image in the main text - the photo of the beach and the promenade.

And why would you favour the header on the left? It was left-aligned in an earlier effort, but Jen didn't think it looked good.
actually, I take that back. I think it looks fine in the middle, I dont know what got into me.

What program do you use, if you don't mind mentioning it?
    Adobe Photoshop 7.0

I'm puzzled about that one, Blackdragonhide. The background is a tiled image of sand. We've looked at this on lots of different browsers, and on Macs as well as PCs and it always shows up OK. If you can't see it, could I ask what browser/platform etc. you use?

    Thanks

Now you've really got us going, bdhide...

We don't have Firefox to check, unfortunately. Does anyone else get a white (rather than sand-patterned) page background when using Firefox, please?

Why don't you just download Firefox? You can get it here: http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/

You should really be testing your site on other browsers besides IE anyway, to make sure it displays how you want.

    sorry for the inconvenience Sara

It might be becaus eim on this comp, and it displays everything rather brightly (sometimes I make things on my comp in my bedroom and come here and I cant see it! :O) and so its probably just that.

    EDIT:
    See my post here

    Thanks for that, maverick.

We do check on Netscape 7.1, IE 6 and whatever our friend's Mac has on it. But it is a bit sloppy, I agree.

It might be becaus eim on this comp,...
Hope you're right, bdh. Fingers crossed no-one else reports the same.

Can I just ask why Firefox is so ramped by everyone?

Is it better, or slicker, or easier to use?

The reason I ask is that my PC doesn't have that much disk space left, so another heavy program wouldn't help.

Would it be worth getting Firefox and ditching Netscape 7.1 or IE6 to make space available?

    A (temporarily, I hope) cash-strapped

    All of those.

It is tagb-based, meaning you have tabs within the one program, so theres only one item on the taskbar and then inside that you can have 10 different windows open. This is one advantage.

It has a built-in pop-up blocker, no extra downloads, its ready to go from the pack.

You can download more extensions etc. for it to perfectly suit your needs.

    Urm...

And loads of other great stuff.

IMHO It's totally worth it, i've never looked back.
