The biggest issue I see with the site is a lack of colour and images (mainly referencing the first page here). It might also help the site to have a second navigation menu (or images possibly) down the right hand side to balance the page a little more.

I agree with the above. The banner is a little boring, and the boxes around each entry could use some work. If most of your updates are going to be 1-2 lines, you may want to make the bar at the top a little less dominating. Right now those thick gray lines stand out a little too much, IMO.
