Hey, I'm redesigning my design website and am just looking for a few opinions on what could be better, changed, etc.

The new site design: AJBD Redesign

    The current design: AJBD

Sweet! An opportunity to be a di........stinguished critic of website work!

I like the redesign better personally. I think the current site's too busy and I hate text on backgrounds. It's almost always hard to read; I don't care what anyone says about that either. Text on multi-coloured backgrounds sucks. Yeah, ya heard me.

My major beefs with the redesign are that the menu is too small and "invisible", while the header graphic (the whole "avg-joe.com" and face thing) is far too big. I personally would lose the face and "avg-joe.com" and maybe have that section as a 20-pixel-high background.

Then put your menu (which should be bigger and more obvious) underneath. That's the part you want people to click on; make it painfully obvious where it is and what it is. People are not intuitive creatures by nature, and if you confuse them, they will go.

Also, you may want to lose the "F*Bombs" work from your portfolio. There's nothing wrong with it from the purely aesthetic sense, but you may lose clients because some people are so easily offended (good thing none of mine are. )
If I've helped you out in any way, please pay it forward. My wife and I are walking for Autism Speaks. Please donate, and thanks.

If someone helped you out, be sure to "Like" their post and/or help them in kind. The "Like" link is on the bottom right of each post, beside the "Share" link.

You have a reliance on Flash for a huge part of the page--something I have happily disabled in both Firefox and IE.

I actually like the header image (face and logo) although yes I would make it 50%-75% it's current site.

As far as flash, I always have it enabled, but I wouldnt of thought the site used it. I don't have a problem with flash at all, but I don't think your doing anything you couldnt do without it on this site.

I like your use of the orange and blue on the page.. maybe see how it looks with more of an orange or blue background instead of the tan looking one. I like it overall.

I prefer the new design, although the retro-look old one would work better without the too-dark background.

But I'd keep the face. Just make everything load quicker (interlaced or interleaved or whatever?).

Neither of the designs loads fast enough on dial-up (and there are a lot of us Luddites around still).
