Opinions on site navigation

Hello. I will soon be adding more information to my site which will in effect cause it to be more like a portal, and would like to take opinions on improving its navigation. Some of the things I will be adding are a large link directory, some form of gallery, updating content like gas prices, news, stocks, ect, random technical information/articles pertaining to things of an automotive nature, & more. As you can see, all this information will have to be presented so that it is easily accesible from the front page but also obvious that it exists. Any thoughts you might have on this would be appreciated, as your input always is.. Thanks!

Try to avoid the three-column typical layout (IMO at least). If you use two columns then it will look much better in lower resolutions and stand out.

Just out of curiousity where are you going to fetch the data from?

Well the data will be fetched from random places throughout the Internet. For example, I currently recieve news from Magportal.com. I recieve stocks from stockset.com. I will be recieving nationwide hi/low gas prices from gasbuddy.com as soon as I figure out an organized way to implement the information without taking too much room.. as it is you need a 'gas buddy' gif for each state, way too many.

I also hope to recieve more automotive news from moreover.com, but I need a Javascript or similar method that can automatically retrieve their free CGi feed. In the future, I may also add weather and see if anyone finds it valueable. Also I would like to add a short list of randomized links on the frontpage from my links directory, but don't know how to implement this.

I will also be adding any more automotive content that I can find free in the future if it looks like it may be valueable to my audience.
