My host (EUK Host) has set up Wordpress for me on the server.

I've just changed the permalink settings from default to custom structure. I've entered %category%/%postname%.

I tried doing a test post to see if it was working but it's coming up with a page saying "page cannot be found".

Is there something I need to do in the root folder to enable these to work?

    Thanks

If that is exactly how you put it in, you are missing a /. That should be all....

Thanks but I think it was something to do with the Windows hosting. I've now moved to dreamhost and they're working like a dream! Thank you for you advice though, much appreciated

mod-rewrite was always an apache module that allowed for changing your urls in the wordpress. Yes there were hacks and mods that allowed windows servers to do the same thing, but if the host doesn't set the permissions properly the .htaccess file is not served up properly so the rewrite fails.

Windows Server 2008 finally supports this properly ( but it still has to be turned on )
