Is there a right way to use Wordpress as a static CMS?

    Hey Guys,

I am a newbie to wordpress and in fact any CMS. However I have come across a simple and easy way to use wordpress similar to what this guy has done in this video:

Allthough I would add a seperate php file for a header and footer and also make the navigation dynamic. Just wondering am I creating wordpress sites correctly or should I be trying to use modules like in the advance custom fields.

    Thanks
