In order for that to happen, you'll have to send it via AJAX, wait for the response and then trigger the popup. It isn't incredibly difficult to do on your own, but try searching for Gravity Form AJAX and see what you find.

What does the AJAX script return after it gets a response from the script on the server?

I can't get to it from the computer I'm on right now. Here's the deal, when a form is submitted via AJAX, it sends it to a script on the server using the post method, just like if there was no AJAX. In fact, a lot of the time, it's the same server side script. That server side script will send a response back to the client, and that response will be stored as part of the AJAX object. See if you can find in the javascript where this happens. It's likely a short block of code 10-20 lines unless they've overcomplicated it, as a lot of devs seem to do these days. Once you've found that, post it here and I'll see if I can help more.
