Author ID change after post publish.

I setup a mechanism to post new custom post type posts from the front end, with featured image capability. The new posts are set as pending. When the admin/editor comes along and publishes the the post, the author ID changes from the original author to the admin/editor that approved it. I feel like this shouldn't happen at all. At the very least, there should be a setting (GUI or db option) to modify this.

I have searched around the web for a solution to this, besides storing the original author ID in a custom field.

So far the closest thing to a solution is...
    stackexchange post
I still have my hopes out for something better.

Anyone on here have any ideas?

I'm working on same project. I think storing it in a custom field is the solution. It is simple and quick. What is better?
