No advertising ("spamming") of any kind at all is allowed anywhere at WDF.
Types of advertising that may not be obvious but are not allowed are:
- Affiliate links
- Referral IDs
- Advertising for a free site
- Recommending products or services in a bias method
Note that linking to your site in a non-promotional way is completely acceptable.
The sole exception to the "no advertising"
rule is in signatures. However, you still may not use referral IDs
or affiliate links in your signature.
You must keep a non-offense, non-confrontational tone at WDF. This means no harassing, insults, or other offensive posts.
Do not directly contact (i.e., send a private message
or e-mail to) a WDF moderator or administrator asking for web design assistance.
Instead, please post in the proper public forum.
No politically- or religiously-oriented discussion
is allowed. Note that you can still post on such matters in a neutral
way. For example, "Please review my Christian Rock Music site"
is acceptable, but "What do you think of the situation in Iraq"
and "The US really needs to..." are not.
The word of a WDF moderator or administrator is
final and private to the people involved. Do not challange a moderator
or administrator's authority or post publicly objecting to a moderator's
act. If you feel that a moderator's actions are completely unacceptable,
send
the administrator a private message. Of course, the administrator's
decision is final.
You may only have a four-line, text-only signature
with either a normal or smaller font size. Hyperlinks and other formatting
vB Code
is allowed. Note that a "line" is defined as the point at
which either a line break or a natural line wrap occurs.
Exceptions:
- WDFplus members may use a single 350 pixel
width by 70 pixel height JPEG, GIF, or PNG image, which can also
itself be a hyperlink. The use of an animated GIF in a signature
is not allowed, nor are images that consist of simply fonts that
blatantly intend to violate the font size restrictions of a text-only
signature.
- WDF moderators and administrators are exempt
from this rule as their singatures often point to local forum
resources.
- Users who link to local WDF resources or
web-design-related sites to which they are not affiliated are
limited to eight lines of text rather than four.
Refer to the advertising rules for information about advertising in signatures.
Excessive posting simply for the sake of posting
or to increase your "post count" is intolerable.
Do not unnecessarily "bump" a thread (reply
to a thread simply to push it to the top of a list of threads). Wait at
least 12 hours before bumping a thread.
Please use proper grammar and spelling when at WDF.
It is extraordinarily hard for other users to read your posts when it
contains no capital letters, is several paragraphs joined together with
no punctuation or line breaks, and uses numbers in the words ("2"
versus "too", etc.).
Do not circumvent the allowed attachment extensions list by using a zip file
or otherwise masking the file extension. Specifically, note that precompiled code
(executables, Java class files, DLLs, etc.) are not allowed here, as are common document
formats that are capable of including embedded scripting (namely Microsoft Office documents).
