For websites tackling the local market, I find I can usually get results with onpage seo. For more competitive markets, you need links - ezine, goarticles, sb etc

be realistic. most seo co's are not very honest. they promise 100's to 1000's of clients selling the same product page 1 in indexing. how many results show up on your search page? seo is but one part of a good marketing campaign. some places to look for additional marketing are facebook and myspace ads. don't spend it all in one place.

So perhaps you should say that some SEO companies are not very honest so it pays to check out their customers to see how they think about the service provided.

The thing is that you do not need to hire an SEO company to get your onpage optimisation sorted and you certainly don't need the SEO Co to organise your copy. You can get them to do a keyword analysis for you but then you should organise your web copy around this.

As an SEO/P expert I can state that it is much more cost effective for the site owner to organise the copy around my keyword suggestions because the site owner should be the expert. I can then promote this content.

In other words, don't get a truck-load of backlinks from a handful of domains - get quality links from a myriad of domains that are highly valued by the SE's. And, if you can get those links to include your desired keyphrases in the anchor text - that'd be helpful too

I don't think that updating pages will do you any harm with Google.

In fact if you regularly modify pages on a daily basis and then ping the services. Google will increase the crawl frequency of your page. You will then see a much quicker response to on page optimisation.
