I'm starting this thread for FYI purposes. After searching, didn't see any older threads on this topic. Main purpose is to compile a list of reputable freelancing avenues for graphics/web designers and programmers.

At the moment I know the following sites that can help freelancers get some projects either for money or to build their portfolio.

- ELance www.elance.com
- CREATIVEmoonlighter www.creativemoonlighter.com
- Rent-A-Coder www.rentacoder.com

People might also be able to find very limited freelance work (mainly under $100, rarely contracted) on some popular forums, such as:

- SitePoint Forums www.sitepointforums.com

Does anyone else have any other sites to add to the list?

Hi !

There are many clones of RentACoder™, but original is outstanding one:
1. 20,000+ registered software buyers and 60,000+ coders. Join too - it's free.
2. 700+ open bid requests in 32 categories. 4,715 completed projects in Nov 2003.
3. No needs to pay subscription (like at Elance, Contracted Work, Telecommute-Jobs ).
4. You can't see strange bids: "I can do it for 3$ in 0 days" (like at Scriptlance ).

RentACoder.com is my choice.
I can say this as "Rent A Coder" Top Coder.
100+ projects completed by me in last year.
Here my brief history:

I HATE scriptlance, it's full with unproffessional people that design ugly sites for 5$...

Yeah, considering that SL will be taking away those $5, they are working for free. Kills any chance of your bid being accepted. I picked up a couple of permanent clients from there a while ago, wasn't that bad then.

RentACoder is much better IMHO.

Holy resurrection batman!

This thread is for sites where web designers can sign up to get / bid on jobs, not for another company to ADVERTISE their business!

A new approach for freelancers is my site Logo Wars.
You actually see what you cash you can win by participating in posted design projects. The plus side, is that you also get business leads when other people see your work, view your portfolio and contact you for their own needs. It's fresh and hot.
Forgive me for posting this. If it is against the rules, then please delete it wihout prejudice. I thought it would help those in search of design work and not intending to spam.
Regards,
Bugmaster

Logo Wars appears to be non-existant... Check out Design Contest
You have to submit 10 posts to the forum and then have your portfolio site reviewed before you are accepted to the 'design team', after which you are free to bid on the projects. Similar idea to the already mentioned SitePoint.

Hey there guys.

Not sure if I am allowed to post this here, (if not then I apologise), but I have just set up a site for freelancers/ contractors/ recruiters in the design industry.

The site is at http://currentlylookingforwork.com and it's free to join.

I use getafreelancer.com, rentacoder.com. Rentacoders' procedures are very strict but a good one. GAF is very flexible. I have already done few projects thru them.

Thanks everyone for all the info. I've used getafreelancer in the past, and haven't been too happy with it. Looks like I'll be trying Rentacoder next.
