That's cool, it's funny how some people have been using these sites for years, but most of them (7) I'm seeing for the first time. Thanks

This is true that a lot of people have used Notepad or something similar to create websites and they continue to do so.

As we evolve as designers, efficiency is key. Having tools to help with efficiency and to automate some tasks that took a long time in the past is a good choice in my opinion.

The title "9 Free Tools That All Web Designers Should Have" is simply a catch line to get your attention. As you said, people have been fine without these tools but for those who choose to use them, they will be fine with them.

About : Xenu Link Checker . I think if you sign up on Google Webmaster, you have there a better tool to check broken links for your site.

I use Webmaster Tools and it does provide good data. The one drawback is it is never up to date. Sometimes it is days or even a week behind. Plus I believe it only shows the pages that are indexed by Google.

The thing with Xenu is that it is instant. You can get real time data whenever you choose for your entire site.

This is really useful. I knew of other cross-browser checking tools, but not of the Adobe site. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the positive feedback on the original list. I plan on creating a few more lists like this to help out designers, developers, and SEOs. Any suggestions for these lists?

Just Say No To Lorem Ipsum the first step on moving to content driven design, or call it web fifteen-dot-zero, which is roughly when the web fadwagon will get around to content.

Bullfighter checks for meaningless buzzwords, but hasn't been updated for the Web 2.0 hucksterisms.

Website Optimizer yes, every single user simply loves what you did with Flash/Mootools/Jquery. Test it anyway with an A/B split run.

I just had a lot of fun with a couple of automated link request emails and one of the several emails saying I have been randomly chosen to receive the 55 million dollar estate of a dead oil tycoon from China.
