You're putting yourself forward as web designers, and yet you are using a purchased template (Display, from ThemeForest) as you own site.

I am personally a lover of Viral advertising over Social Networks, however I do feel that social networks have their place. Most people fail to realize the differences between advertising on a social network by completely eliminating the "social" aspect of their advertising campaign.

For example an advert run on Facebook that says "Check out our company" is going to receive far less clicks than an advert saying "16 of your friends like this company do you?".

Adding that social twist to your advert will greatly increase the click through rate (based on the fact that the product/service you are advertising appeals to the masses).

Twitter on the other hand, again in my opinion, is little more than subscribed spam, you really need a ludicrous number of followers to benefit substantially in any campaign.

When I promote via Twitter, my method is first to write an interesting press release and submit it to an independent site such as PRlog.org or something like that. Then promote that press release on twitter. Of course the press release contains a link to my site, therefore any traffic has literally jumped through hoops BEFORE they reach my site and the product or service of my campaign.

Finally if you are a "stats watcher" and your web site traffic for the day is a few unique clicks short of the previous day, then adding a bit.ly link to your site and throwing it on Twitter will certainly entice a few quick clicks and take you above the previous days threshold. This is only important if you are seeking to show a constant growth of traffic to your website and has no other real benefit.

    Best regards

I've tried Twitter in the past and I don't seem to get any response whatsoever. Tweets seem to just get lost as soon as they're a few seconds/minutes old.

    Re: Pink
You say above "Tweets seem to just get lost as soon as they're a few seconds/minutes old."...
I would just like to remind you that they just get lost on YOUR twitter because you follow so many people, if someone for example ONLY follows you, then your tweet's will be on THEIR pages forever.

Of course in reality lots of people follow lots of people hence tweets don't usually have a long shelf life but once you understand that factor you can make it work a little for you. ( I still think it's subscribed spam but hey that's me) enjoy.

Here's everything I ever needed to know about Twitter in one scenario. I'm going to keep the forum and the user nameless in this case, just because I don't want anyone harassing the guy (I suspect he meant well). But here it is.

I had a problem with a Yahoo! product about 2 years ago (not search...I'll leave it at that). I mentioned it on a web forum and was told what an idiot I was for refusing to use Twitter. "Sign up, the Yahoo! engineers are on, find me, follow me, I'll put you in touch with the engineers and your problem will be solved in about 10 minutes or less because they read their Tweets and respond rapidly."

So I signed up for that reason alone. Followed the guy in question (and in my case, it wasn't a random idiot with his/her first post, either. It was someone I knew that understood some things about web design/development/SEO and there was a chance he had the contacts.

The guy never even followed me back...and in his list of followers, there was no way I could have picked out the Yahoo! engineer. I gave it 24 hours and then I resorted to solving my problem in a highly technologically advanced way...I picked up the phone and I called Yahoo!

Calling Yahoo! on the phone...and keeping in mind that they're one of the most clueless corporate paranationals going...got me the response I wanted faster than using Twitter, which supposedly was going to put me in the loop, get me connected, find me people who were going to solve my problems, etc. Haven't used Twitter since, and I don't plan to anytime soon. I don't want a marketing plan geared around a service that will eventually collapse under its own weight, and I don't want to be tied to something that can't help me.

While you are likely entirely correct about Yahoo, I've seen personally that a lot of companies respond not only to tweets to them, but tweets about them. It has paid a number of times for my wife to complain about Company X on Twitter when she's had poor service. So much so that the urge to abuse has been hard to combat.

By asking a stupid generic Question posted about 7000 Times in various Forums, making sure to capitalize Nouns for no Reason.

You shouldn't use your personal accounts for business use. Create a Facebook page / Google+ account / Twitter account for business use.

Now days Google + (plus) should be considered as a requirement for promoting your website. I'd suggest learning everything about Google plus, as it will be just as important as Twitter, Facebook, etc. moving forward.

I'd also suggest learning more about local search options.

    TheGame 1264,

I agree regarding Facebook, but what do you think of Google+ ? More down the road than today, as I certainly don't think it is significant yet. However, with the Google brand, resources, and technology, I have to imagine they will have an impact down the road. The only question i my mind, is whether they overstep their bounds and alienate their customers, pushing people to other search engines.

I'm adopting the 'wait and see" approach. Personally, I don't think any of the social networks will even come close to search as far as customers are concerned.

What people forget about Facebook, Twitter, etc. is that they're designed (Facebook in particular) to connect with other people and usually not to buy things. Search is different...you're actively seeking information on a product or service. I don't see how Google+ changes that yet, although if anyone can it's Google.

What I have seen from Google + is that they may be screwing up traditional search if they are not careful. They are trying to change what "relevancy means" to search. The concept has some merit, but is some cases they are having sites show up that aren't relevant and in some cases are poor sites, just because their is some connection to the user.

We'll see where it goes, but they risk messing up a good thing.
