our admin. has a spot on our forums for our people to find and buy stuff. on the left of the section title is an icon circled that scrolls from bottom to top. what is this and what is it for. is it so he has set up his bus. to always come up to the top first, so he has top billing over anyone else?

    Hi there,

Give us a screen capture of what you're talking about and maybe we can see it. I'm not sure what you're trying to say.

Sounds like he has put the icon in an absolutely positioned div with a big z-index so it stays in position (in view) no matter how far down the page you scroll.

    Or possibly a fixed position.

YEP! That would be better - I think I have only used it once or twice so I always forget about it!

thanks guys. yes it does look like our admin. took it upon himself to make sure his line always stays on top of page and everyone elses moves down below his on every other topic . i noticed that on the left of every new topic there is a circle with lines in it. his circle has lines that scroll. like a notice that his topic is to show he is fixed and no one else's is

Again, if you could screen capture it or give us a link to your site so we can see what you're talking about, we can tell you more about it. It's hard to say without seeing it.

Wow, we were all way off.

http://www.gnobs.org/forums/viewforum.php?f=13&sid=a26f4cc396f35a36da6513bc9d9d8247 <--- this is the forum he's talking about.

The little graphic that you see indicates that it's a popular topic and that it's open to discussion. I believe the default setting in phpBB (the bulletin board script that runs your forum) is 15 posts, but I'm not sure. But at any rate, that's all that it is.

Odd, though...there's usually a legend that comes with these boards that explains this stuff. Not sure what happened to yours.

thank you. it still seems to me that our administrator is using this topic to allways apear on top to benifit his purpose to sell his goods above anyone else. his will stay on top and all else will fall below.

Actually, in this case, it's nothing more than the default order phpBB sorts the threads in (descending order of date of last reply).

Start a new thread about something and it should bump his post down.

If you look at the stats you will see that that post has had 26 replies - which is far more then the next most replied post, which has only 7 replies.

    The icon link is at
    http://www.gnobs.org/forums/styles/prosilver/imageset/topic_read_hot.gif
and as you can see by the name - it is a standard icon assigned by phpBB for hot topics.

Also, the last post in that thread was made on Tuesday, June 14, 2011.
There have been no newer posts that I can see in any of the threads below it.

The only post newer than Tuesday, June 14, is above it. Start a new thread - or post to one of the old ones and see if it moves.

First you'd have to have someone who is able to do what is required as far as troubleshooting and maintenance, then thay'd have to be willing to devote the time to it.
But why do you want someone else to take over?

My guess is that this is a not-for-profit with a divided group of volunteers. Happens quite a bit.

That's what I figured too, from the OP's obvious dissatisfaction with the admin's thread. But it's really not the admin's fault if that thread is the most popular - he was not bumping it himself that I could see.
