Hi guys I am new to the forum. I am old school when it comes to web design. I did a lot when AltaVista was king. Then I came away and done other things. I have now decided to start up on a small scale again. I will be probably need a lot of advice over the coming months but see what you think. By the way I am no graphic designer

Thanks,
Phil

Not as bad as I was expecting based on your cautionary post.

The blue navigation images (the three giant ones) could use a graphical touch up. They appear to be kind of low quality. You should export them again and up the quality. I'd actually recommend switching to a CSS sprite style button, with pure text on it and an image for the background. It's just easier to maintain.

I like the navigation you have at the top of the page.

Steve Krug, author of Don't Make Me Think: "Get rid of half the words on each page, then get rid of half of what's left."

I'd change this image: http://www.tag-webdesign.co.uk/images/top.gif to an unordered list with some better check mark images. I'd use green images instead of red. Check out the check list I have at my proof reading site SnapProofing.com

phil. my suggestions start with a note about your <br tags. you should try using margins in place of the br tags. assigning a generic "a { margin: 7px 5px 0px 5px; }" takes a little less for load time then 20 <br tags and gives tighter control over page real estate. also better compartmentalisation of your content, it kinda just blends together. lastly, i also suffer from imnotanartist. use that as part of your style and keep it clean and simple. do a search for "most successful web sites" and all the top results point to minimal graphics anyway.

It’s a well managed site with all the links workings. At first instance it gives a placid look. Great work.

nice site I believe search engine optimization is spelled with an z, but it could go both ways, z has more traffic.

I like the topic of your website, but to my mind white color on black is too contrasting - it is difficult to read and apprehend the material.

Nice header. I can see you are old school from your SEO on web design.
On your SEO page you might want to put seo in your tags for that page.
You have search engine optimisation well covered.
